My work can be grouped into 3 categories: Strategic Design, Product Design, and work with Technology. As these largely overlap the majority of my project fall into multiple of these categories and all feature a technological aspect.

Food

Through Light
AURA uses lighting to bring out the natural beauty and aesthetic in food, creating a curated storage experience.

The Problem
Having to retrieve something from the refrigerator is typically a bad experience. Due to poor lighting and cramped shelving, food looks unappealing and is often discarded prematurely.

Having to dig through shelves, bending down, always finding something that should no longer be there is always an unpleasant and negative experience.

The aim of this project was to re-design the food storage experience, to make it more pleasant for the user, and to have an impact on the food waste problem.

A different food storage experience:
AURA
Performing observational research, and gathering insight from users, two root problems were found with the current food storage experience: lack of visibility, and poor aesthetic. Poor visibility results from cramped shelves. Produce and various types of containers pile up, you cannot see what is in your fridge, and the poor quality of light makes everything look unattractive.

AURA addresses poor visibility and transparency through a clear module design. The modules are mounted on eye-level, placing your food on display.

AURA implements a dynamic lighting system to maximise aesthetics And bringing out the natural beauty in food.

Aura places food as the centrepiece of your kitchen, where it belongs.
AURAs dynamic lighting brings out the natural aesthetic of the products placing them centerstage in your kitchen.
Produce becomes a curated piece of art, showcased instead of hidden away in dark drawers.

Special container design to cause least visual impairment. No grey Tupperware, creating a clean unobstructed visual, putting your food on display like a piece of art.
AURA Dynamic Lighting System

Different food groups look optimal under different lighting conditions.

This is how supermarkets light different isles with different types of produce to make everything look optimal.

Aura brings this effect into your kitchen.
AURA utilises computer vision to detect what produce is on the shelf and adapts the lighting conditions to bring out the maximum beauty, making produce look fresh and delicious.

Computer Vision

What we see.

What the computer sees.
This video depicts how the system adapts to different produce. Due to the low quality recording it is not visible how the light conditions affect the produce aesthetics.
